If I gambled, my money would be on "sound related problem". I found Previous CatalystTM Drivers. You said it crashes after black screen. Does it name any culprits, like .dlls or something or just blame it on nwn.exe?
If you haven't already, try if it lets you in with sound disabled.

DisableSound=1 | While you're inside your nwn.ini, check what 3D Provider is selected there. When I relied on my integrated RealTek HD Audio, "Miles Fast 2D Positional Audio" was the most stable for me. _________________ Djes |

Odd, it doesn't seem to have anything under the 3D provider. Perhaps this is the problem? And my DisableSound is already =1
And it blames it on nwn.exe _________________ I am he, singer of songs, teller of tales. A man with a smile and compliment to any woman or fellow around. Allow me, a man larger than life with the wit and good looks to match, to introduce myself; I am Henry Wershler and do I have a story for you! |

Well, blast. Looks like sound isn't an issue, if it's already disabled.
Here's my nwnmain.exe's Properties dialogue's Checksums tab | Code: | File: nwmain.exe
CRC-32: 2240deef
MD4: 88e056ab5ee37d9187f90092c79d9495
MD5: 9fd271eaa38aa294c9b1657f0f5300eb
SHA-1: d0c199ced57b833e8affe7acaf35c235eff267f6 | Frankly, I'm used to watch only MD5 sums. I hope critical rebuild helps. _________________ Djes |

I don't know how to check that. Also, should my system have a 3D Provider could that be the cause and if so how do I get one? _________________ I am he, singer of songs, teller of tales. you can get several generations back of these drivers from the ATi web site itself. You look in the same place as for the newest drivers, and there is a link for "history" or something, with a big long change log and links to each referenced version.
Also is it possible to paste the exact error message here? |

Just compare that MD5 sum of my nwmain.exe to your nwmain.exe's MD5 sum. They should be identical. If they differ, one of us has a buggy file. Right click your nwmain.exe and choose properties and the checksums tab.
3D sound provider will be chosen only when your sounds are enabled. _________________ Djes |

Perhaps I'm doing this wrong but when I select properties from nwmain.exe I can't find a checksums tab. Where should I be looking for this?
Currently I've had a friend come by and switch up my driver to the omega one and still no luck. I'm DL'ing (woo canada) the CD's now and hopefully it's just an issue with my HotU CD or something. Hopefully that works because currently I'm at a loss. _________________ I am he, singer of songs, teller of tales. A man with a smile and compliment to any woman or fellow around. I'm so full of !@#$^. It's a shell extension that I have installed. HashCheck. I needed to get MD5 sums and picked up this open source thing from the net some time ago. I guess it's so neatly integrated I eventually ended up thinking that's stock Windows XP equipment. I could have been!
Did you have any luck with the Previous CatalystTM Drivers showed in earlier post or is this Omega series considered better way to be backward compatible with older standard graphics? Last time I was thinking about Omega series, was when my nVidia card got dropped into evergrowing ranks of Legacy hardware. I had bad luck, though. They no longer had anything for nVidia in that Omega pool.
I got a good feeling about you downloading that HotU CD. My feeling has been wrong for so long now that it just has to be right this time. _________________ Djes |
