If your rest gets interrupted you need to wait additional 8 hours which I find is pretty unfair as you loose a rest wurth of exp.
Totally I have lost probably more exp from interrupted rests then I have dying....... Or maybe not..
I've also thought about the whole "Can't rest while enemies are nearby" thing, removing that would add alot of fun PvP tactics, trying to sneak up the enemy when they are asleep etc. It would also give a better reason for people to "keep watch" during bed time. _________________ Grigor Zhdanov - Oghma's little geezer

Actually I've come to realize that if you stand completely still after your rest has been interrupted and the "interruption" is dealt with without you moving a muscle... You can rest again!
Nifty eh? _________________ Currently: Theodorian Firehand, Nareng Aldataur |

Main issue i see with resting while enemies around is people in groups resting during battle, while others fight - To get new spells etc. So it does serve its purpose.
So i guess if it can be changed to no rest during battle, or so many seconds after battle. _________________

If resting with enemies nearby was allowed, then the rest times would need to be significantly longer. A "rest" is just that... it's a period of rest, as in sitting on your bedroll trying to get some shuteye or maintaining a camp without being in a state of alert. IMO, resting is already lenient enough to not remove any sort of restriction when near enemies. However, by removing it, I suppose it does possibly take away one avenue of metagaming... but given that they would initiate a rest if they weren't near enemies, possibly removing buffs and exposing themselves, I don't think it'd be anything to worry about. _________________

| i still think resting should require that you are near a fire to encourage making proper camps and having everyone stop rather than people just sitting down on the go |

I think so too, you'd get the "setting up camp" feeling, even if it were just a small one. We wouldn't want something that's too cumbersome or inconvienent to use though. The resting stuff is always fudged somewhat, it's just what happens in these sorts of games. _________________

Perhaps there could also be some kind of small benefit for those who carry a tent and a bedroll as well? I'd hate to see a rest system like Areliths... but making use of some of the "props" would be prime. _________________ Screw you. |

How about add to the resting system a hunger type thing. Or is that a bit to realistic and a hassel to players as well as scripters?
Depending on characters constitution or something they get hungry slower or faster so resting outside of free rest zones arn't the only time we need to eats.
Next step from there is allowing people to eat corpses among the scalping burning burrying options. =D |

I don't think those hunger things go over that well with most people. Some people like them though. I had thought of something along those lines where you can eat the food at rest to get some sort of bonus, but I think that's already what the cooking system does. _________________

I dislike the hunger system, it's just a !@#$^ to concern myself with and it's so insignificant to the game.
But having a tent and a bedroll might make characters more well-rested when they awake, perhaps improving their hitpoint regeneration, or stat increase slightly. Maybe this won't stack with pies and such, or maybe adds a temporary bonus to saves or the like. The ideas keep flowing. _________________ Screw you. |

Fun versus realism comes into play. A hunger/thirst system is quite firmly in the 'painfully realistic' side of things and usually alienates current players and puts off new players. Most people would prefer to chew broken glass or be set on fire than have to endure garbage like that. _________________ O'er the hills and o'er the main,

| the tent and bedroll for extra resting bonuses would definitely be sweet (except for zerzo who would end up carrying it) |
